Impacted canines are a problem that the orthodontist will sooner or later have to face during his or her career. The treatment of these teeth requires a multidisciplinary approach, the key to success being a good collaboration between the surgeon and the orthodontist. The ways in which we can try to traction these teeth are innumerable, both with fixed orthodontics and with aligners. As it is considered a complex treatment, we often prefer to treat it with fixed appliances rather than with invisible orthodontics.I hope that after reading this book we will banish this idea and see canine traction as a ‘simple’ treatment or, at least, that we will have clear guidelines to treat them with confidence. There is no one technique that is better or worse than another. However, what we do need to be clear about is the design of the traction system so that the forces applied are effective and as gentle as possible on the canine and its supporting structure.
